When I move to Vancouver in September I'm planning on living in residence at UBC. Or at least that was the plan, until this weekend I was talking to a girl I went to school with (she's been at UBC for a year already). Apparently accomodation for student's is really scarce in Vancouver, so her Dad has bought her a house in Burnaby, then when she graduates in 3 years time he will sell it. She lives with her boyfriend (I know him too), and another girl. They have a spare room, and Rebecca said I could move in. I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons of living in residence vs. living off campus. For your first year at university you're guaranteed a room in residence, after that you have to enter a lottery system …. so there's a chance I'll have to find another place to live next year. Residence: House:
PROS
- living right on campus, 5 mins from the beach and 10 mins to downtown Vancouver
- meet lots of people, lots of parties
- cheaper
CONS
- might get stuck rooming with a dick
- I'll probably have to look for different accomadation next year
PROS
- living with friends
- I'll get my own room
- I already know the people I'll live with
- living in proper house, with a real kitchen and laundry
- theres only 1 rule …. there are no rules
CONS
- I really can't think of any
i made it to vancouver! flight was great, considering most the flights on the east coast were cancelled due to a big ass storm, I guess that made air traffic quiet cos we actually got into vancouver 20 minutes ahead of schedule. it was a good flight, except they didn't give us any food, just a drink, and they didn't show a movie. it was funny flying with Stacey, it was her second time ever flying. when we were pulling out from the tarmac the stewardess came up to Stace & said 'miss, please put your tray up for take off', and I started laughing cos she got in trouble so she slapped me for not telling her to put the tray up. and then when we were landing the plane was making this loud high pitch noise & Stace asked if I could hear it & I said 'no I don't hear anything', and Jamie said 'I don't hear it either'. I told Stacey to try swallowing, and to squeeze her nose & blow to see if it popped her ears. then the pilot turned the engine off, and the noise stopped and I got another slap.
its a lot milder here than in Toronto (it was -3 when we left last night), the mountains look amazing. we're staying with Nathans auntie. She lives in English Bay, which is a pretty swanky part of Vancouver and right near Stanley Park. we were starving (cos Air Canada didn't feed us) so we stopped off at In N Out Burger. I'd never had it before, we don't have it in Ontario, it was pretty good I have to say. we'll i'll be back tomorrow with more stories about Vancouver.
It's offically March break here in Canada, which means 2 weeks off. This has been a ridiculosly fast school year, it's scary to think that in 3 months it will be all over. Prom is less than a month away! The rest of the grade 12ers are starting to freak out about which university they will get accepted to. There is definitely a weird melancholy feeling at school right now, everyone is starting to realise this will all be ending soon. I heard a girl in the library say with all the school we've missed lately she would rather come to school next week than be at home (I'm pretty sure she is smoking crack-cocaine). We have missed a lot though, they are going to have to cram a lot before the finals, I got a ton of homework to do over break. The next two weeks are going to be pretty stellar though, lots of snowboarding and working this weekend, and my trip to Vancouver with Spacey, Amy, Jamie & Nate. Plus going to see my dad in San Francisco.
