this is gonna be a long day, I woke up at 3am and can't fall asleep. I'll probably finally nod off at 6 and then have to get up at 7:30. I've been sleeping really badly this week, I even overslept till 10 yesterday. I thanked my mom for waking me up, she assumed i didn't have to go in before lunch. I had to go to the office at school to let them know I was late, which I think is a dumb policy. Instead of going straight to class you have to go to the office with a note from a parent and fill in a form. If by grade 12 you want to arrive late to school then big whoop.
earlier this week I was thinking about skipping school Friday and driving to Ottawa for the weekend to see Stacey. In the end I decided not to cos Stace will be home next Thursday (for her graduation ceremony), plus there have been wicked fog warnings all week. I definitely want to drive up to Ottawa again for a weekend before Christmas. Stace has been stressing about exams for the last two weeks, she used to get worked up about school work but it seems even more intense now (shes doing Psychology at Uni of Ottawa, which is a pretty full on degree). So I think I'll wait till the end of the month when she is pass the first cycle of exams.
This weekend should be pretty quiet, I have to work all day on Saturday. On Sunday I'm going to check out the 07 Customs at boardsports, I'm definitely getting a new board this season, and I'm catching up with Liam probably on Sunday to get his old Vans boots. I don't think the resorts will open before Christmas, but I'm starting to get pumped for the snowboarding season.
had a great weekend in Ottawa, visiting Stacey at Uni of Ottawa. Here's all that we did:
- I met Stacey's roommate, Amy, and a bunch of her other fellow students. They seemed really friendly, its intimidating meeting a group of people who already know about you but you don't know them. Stacey is taking psychology, its really interesting some of the classes she's taken so far.
- on Saturday, 4 of us drove to Syracuse in New York - Stacey, Amy and her friend David. It's a two hour drive from Ottawa. We went to a student bar and watched the Yankees beat the Red Sox. We saw "Across the Universe", it was amazing - there were a couple of songs that were a bit corny, but I have to say the movie kept my attention the whole way through like no other movie I've seen. And at the end of the movie, the audience applauded (the same thing happened in Boston when i saw Ratatouilie, must be an American thing, even though Jordan reckons he's never seen it.
- back at the hotel, we stayed up until about 5AM. Amy and Dave went to Europe in the summer too, so we were talking about that. I've got Stacey 99% committed to come to Russia with me next summer.
- Sunday morning, we went to mass, the University there puts on a big Episcopalean service, which was a real eye opener. The minister was a woman who talked about Iraq & global warming and gay rights. Even Stace, who is generally an atheist was impressed. We sat at the border for 2 hours getting back into Canada (I think I'm gonna get a NEXUS pass, for $50 you can speed right through in special lanes, you barely have to stop. We went to a Vietnamese restuarant for dinner Sunday night, I was showing off when i spoke to the waitress in Vietnamese.
- Monday morning, i drove back via Kingston to have lunch with Jamie. In downtown Kingston there was a crew for the new Hulk movie. There must have been 100 big trailers. I didn't see Edward Norton or Liv Tyler, but I saw a NYC bus, then when i drove past on the way out of town, the bus was burnt out, I was spewing that I missed the explosion.
so, pretty rad weekend, Stacey is coming back home next weekend for her 18th birthday. I dunno when I'll be going back to Ottawa, Thanksgiivng would be nice!!
Stacey moved into residence at Uni of Ottawa last week, she told me they have co-ed showers in their dorm. I don't like the sound of that, apparently each floor has a giant bathroom with a row of 12 stalls, with proper doors but not locks. Showering with other guys is bad enough, it would be worse with girls around. after awhile you would get used to it I guess, but it would be strange walking into a shower and seeing college girls getting undressed. think if you took a poll 90% of people would rather have unisex bathrooms.
Stacey and I are celebrating our 1 year anniversay on Friday, should be lots of fun. I'm pretty stoked its been one year. We're going to Niagara Falls for the day, and dinner at a nice restaruant. I've learnt not to ask my single friends about what present I should get Stace, I just get a lot of grumpy 'I wouldn't get her anything' answers (*cough*Chris*cough*). Last weekend Stacey thought it would be interesting to make a list of each others top 5 annoying habits. I decided to do a list of things I like about Stacey instead Anyway imagine my surprise when Stacey handed me a list of things she doesn't like about me. They were silly things, but one of them was 'you dress like a 12 year old'. I pretty much always wear a billabong t-shirt and boardies, but I think I pretty much dress like a typical 17 yr old. I went shopping with Ms. Hughes yesterday and I told her she could pick out an outfit for me to wear on Friday. She dragged me to the stores I usually hate. I got a couple of nice shirts from American Eagle, and dress pants and new shoes. My mom is pretty happy with my new gear too, so that’s a bonus for Stacey to earn some brownie points there. I think if I could I would definitely be the guy who hands his missus the credit card and tells her 'go buy some clothes for me'.
This weekend is a long weekend for Victoria Day, otherwise know as the May 2-4 weekend. I have asked many people why it's called the 2-4 weekend, nobody knows. I know a 2-4 in Canada is the short name for a carton of 24 beers (24 beers in Australia is called a slab). So maybe the 2-4 weekend is a reference to beer, I don't know. My boring plans for this weekend are to finish a couple of assignments & study, and work on Saturday. Working on a long weekend in a supermarket is the worst. On Saturday after work I'm hopefully going to Stacey's parents cottage, which is about 2 hours north … Mom's cracked the sads cos she thinks I should be at home for Victoria Day weekend, even though she doesn't have anything planned. I'm trying to talk Jamie into coming with me, that will probably convince my mom to let me go. My mom and Stacey's mom are very different … the other night Stacey asked me if I wanted to go see the Queen musical 'We Will Rock You'. Stacey's mom said she would buy us tickets, as a present for our one year anniversary. Then Stacey said her mom also said she'd pay for a hotel room so we could stay overnight in Toronto. I said 'nah, I don't think so', that’s a bit yuck, having your girlfriends parents pay for a hotel room. Plus my mom would never go for that in a million years!
i made it to vancouver! flight was great, considering most the flights on the east coast were cancelled due to a big ass storm, I guess that made air traffic quiet cos we actually got into vancouver 20 minutes ahead of schedule. it was a good flight, except they didn't give us any food, just a drink, and they didn't show a movie. it was funny flying with Stacey, it was her second time ever flying. when we were pulling out from the tarmac the stewardess came up to Stace & said 'miss, please put your tray up for take off', and I started laughing cos she got in trouble so she slapped me for not telling her to put the tray up. and then when we were landing the plane was making this loud high pitch noise & Stace asked if I could hear it & I said 'no I don't hear anything', and Jamie said 'I don't hear it either'. I told Stacey to try swallowing, and to squeeze her nose & blow to see if it popped her ears. then the pilot turned the engine off, and the noise stopped and I got another slap.
its a lot milder here than in Toronto (it was -3 when we left last night), the mountains look amazing. we're staying with Nathans auntie. She lives in English Bay, which is a pretty swanky part of Vancouver and right near Stanley Park. we were starving (cos Air Canada didn't feed us) so we stopped off at In N Out Burger. I'd never had it before, we don't have it in Ontario, it was pretty good I have to say. we'll i'll be back tomorrow with more stories about Vancouver.
