I am 90% sure the house 3 doors from us is a grow house. my mom thinks i'm crazy, cos its a young family who live there, with three young daughters, but here is my evidence:
- everytime I walk past theres a whiff of bong smoke in the air (I didn't tell my mom I recognised the smell obviously)
- i saw a marijuana plant growing amongst the shrubbery in front of their house last week (but the next day the plant was gone)
- they have a big rottweiler, he sticks his head over the 7 foot fence and barks at anyone walking by (why would someone with 3 kids aged under 10 have a rotty as a pet?)
- they always have their sprinklers running, every night, as if they're trying to cover up their high water useage
- the dad has a grey ponytail!
- also, the dad seems to be driving a different car each week, usually a cheapie old beater car
- we live in freakin Canada, every other home is a grow house
so my question is how can i approach the guy and find out how much his prices are.
on 10 minute blitz tonight we talked about Andrew Speaker, the guy with TB who flew into Montreal & drove across the border into NY because his passport had been flagged with a 'no-fly' order. I thought the medias attention was focused on how the US/Canada border didn't stop this guy when he tried to enter the states, which pissed me off for two reasons:
1) it was another example of how the American media love to "blame Canada". Canada is blamed for so many vices that end up in the US .... everything from guns, drugs, terrorists, SARS, mad cow disease and Celine Dion. drugs especially, truckloads of marijuana get into the USA from Canada apparently. plus the prescription drugs, cos they're cheaper in Canada, Americans come up to Canada for their dugsc(they go to Mexico too I suppose). one of the most controversial exports Canada send to the US is our garbage ... I think the practice was stopped last year, but Toronto used to send their garbage to the dumps in Michigan.
It happens the other way too, the Canadian media love to run dramatic stories about serial killers who cross into Canada to hide out ... its just a bit too predictable and nasty for me.
2) I said the TB guy is a dumb American which Jordan & Billy balked at, but its true. This guy knew he was putting other peoples health at risk & showed extreme negligence by trying to avoid being caught by authorities. CNN are saying Speaker was allowed to cross into the US despite an alert saying he should be detained ... that sucks, but hopefully the majority of people can be relied on to be responsible and use common sense .... are we supposed to start making everyone who crosses the border give sputum tests and chest x-rays?
the story has been blown out of proportion, i'm sure no one flying with the guy will show any symptoms. still, I think Andrew Speaker should have some criminal charges laid against him ... what a douche.
most holidays in Canada are a lot bigger deal than they are in Australia, except for maybe Christmas. Australians don't really celebrate Halloween, and Thanksgiving and St. Patricks Day.
In Australia, all you really do for Easter is go to mass on Easter Sunday, come home & get your Easter Eggs and maybe have lunch with your immediate family and grandparents.
Here in Canada you go to church 3 times over Easter ... you go to Reconciliation a few days before Easter, then you go to mass on Good Friday, and then the biggie, mass on Easter Sunday. The church is always packed on Easter Sunday, and we generally try to go to the Sunday Evening service when its quieter, but we had to go to the 7am service this morning cos my brother was in the Easter Passion Play. he played Barrabus which is pretty funny, at least he wasn't Judas I guess. Catholic mass is the same in Australia and Canada, the exact same format & cues.
I would say that Australians are more strict about not eating meat on Fridays during lent. Even at my Catholic High School, the menu doesnt change on Fridays at the tuck shop, you can still get pizza and ham & cheese rolls.
as I was saying, in Australia when you get home from church you get your Easter Eggs, I don't ever remember my parents suggesting they came from the Easter Bunny. In Canada kids have to work for your Easter Eggs. My stepdad & I were out hiding Easter Eggs around our backyard this morning. We got about 4cms of snow last night, so we were trying not to leave footprints, Gerry even tried to make little rabbit prints. We hid about 40 small Easter Eggs, my brother & sisters found 30 of them. My brother is funny, he figured out theres no santa last Christmas, but he didnt give any indication he doesnt believe in the easter bunny. In Canada you also get other presents besides chocolate for Easter, my mom gets us clothes (I got some jeans and a couple of shirts).
we usually have a bunch of people over for lunch on Easter Sunday, this year its going to be more low key, just my step-grandma & uncle are coming, Stacey is coming too.
