Juno - it was decent, it had a good message – most teen movies these days are about “ME” and “what am I going to do”, but pretty much everyone in Juno chooses to do the right thing for someone else. Ellen Page is Canadian so I’d be happy to see her get the Oscar for best actress.
Atonement - I haven’t seen it, but I can tell from the trailer it’s a massive chick flick. Maybe I’ll watch it when it comes out on DVD, I like war movies.
Michael Clayton - this is honestly the movie I enjoyed the most, when I saw the trailer I thought it looked like a cheesy John Grisham story, there was nothing cheesy about this movie. I like George Clooney, he usually plays smooth, James Bond type characters, but Michael Clayton is actually a bit of a loser.
There Will Be Blood - Paul Thomas Anderson makes long movies, the first half hour is really good, but by halfway point you’ve had enough. This movie should have got a bigger release, it was only showing at 3 places in Toronto, when I went to see it, it was completely sold out and we had to sit in the third row ….. for 3 hours! It reminded me of the Aviator how Daniel and Howard Hughes are both pretty weird, eccentric characters, but it wasn't until they became billionaires that they went completely insane. Of the nominated movies, this is the most original.
No Country For Old Men - I think this will get the Oscar for Best Movie. You would be pretty sick if you said you enjoyed this movie, the two old ladies sitting next to me walked out 20 minutes into the movie. Whenever Tommy Lee Jones spoke all I could hear was the Charlie Brown teacher voice (wahhh, wahhh, wahhh), whatever the message of this movie was I didn't get it.
holy crap i've seen a lot of movies this winter, i can't wait for spring!
